BEN SAUNDERS, Head Coach (Level 5 qualified)
The Coaching team is headed by Ben Saunders, one of the most highly qualified and experienced coaches in the region, as well as being a LTA tutor training up new coaches. Ben is also one of British Tennis’ “Tennis For Kids” mentors for 2016 & 2017 training up 1000 coaches this year alongside Leon Smith (Davis Cup Captain), Jonny Marray (Wimbledon Champion) & Colin Flemming (Former Davis Cup player). The “Tennis For Kids” national campaign saw 13,000 new kids get a free racket in 2016 and aims to get 20000 new kids playing tennis for free in 2017!
A former top junior and senior scottish player, Ben has over 18 years coaching experience including assisting Judy Murray for 4 years and working with ATP tour professionals, including Wimbledon stars Andy and Jamie Murray and GB Davis Cup Doubles specialist Colin Flemming.
Ben has coached thousands of kids in the area over the years and also provides coaching and tennis lessons for adults of all standards.
Ben received the LTAs top coaching qualification (Performance Coach Award – level 5) in November 2009. He also received a Special Award from Tennis Scotland in 2001 for captaining the national team to a successful & historic Four Nations victory in Ireland.
Ben has also just scooped a ‘Sporting Hero’ Award for his community work within the Sefton borough and especially helping with the launch of the Victoria Park Tennis project. Ben delivers 1 to 1 coach mentoring sessions, Tennis Leaders courses for youngsters aged 13yrs+ and tutors for Inspire2Coach, one of the best Coach Education providers in the UK.

Tennis Leaders is aimed at 13 years plus and the content is suitable for older juniors just starting out on the tennis career pathway through to adult volunteers looking to support their local coach, referee or club official.
If you have completed the Sports Leaders UK Level 1 Coaching Assistant Award you will still find the first module of great benefit, as it will provide an overview of the sport and help you to put your leadership skills into practice within a tennis environment.
CORE MODULE (3 HOURS)
Introduction to tennis
You must take this module before the other Tennis Leaders modules.
Know the basics of tennis; strokes, game formats and variations of the sport.
Understand how these variations of the game are used to introduce tennis to people of all ages and abilities.
Learn about effective communication and organisation skills.
Put your skills into practice on court – in warm up activities and on court drills

BOOK ON OUR NEXT COURSE NOW – JUST £30 to start your training.
All candidates will receive mentoring from Ben and his team, be supplied with a Tennis Leader pack and receive a t-shirt & certificate on completion of the course. Before being called a ‘Tennis Leader’ on the BST team, all candidates must help with a Mini-Tennis Tournament and complete 4hrs of helping with our Tots & Mini-Tennis groups, including their final session being assessed by Ben!
This is a great way for teenagers to stay involved with sport, improve communication and organisational skills, as well as receive a mini-qualification to add to their CV…they might even get paid for future work or go on to become a Level 1 coach!
